Summer Reading Program
Like all children, a child with reading difficulties looks forward to summer with no more homework or assigned books. Summer offers a break from the daily tensions inherent in school that leave them feeling as if they never have enough time to do the things they love. Scientific data clearly shows that many children with reading difficulties lose reading skills over the summer. How does one balance a child’s academic growth with play, rest and exploration?
Speech Pathology Associates offers individualized reading services using the Barton Reading and Spelling System Summer Program: an Orton-Gillingham influenced program, using multisensory explicit and systematic phonics. This specialized treatment is designed for children who struggle with reading, spelling and writing secondary to a reading disorder. Our reading based services offer reading remediation on a consistent basis during the summer break, still allowing time for a child to enjoy other summer activities!
